There is a wide variety of species to choose from. They have been around since the 17th century and have been cultivated since.

Charcoal Face & Body Bar

Charcoal Face & Body Bar

Curious about our Charcoal Face & Body Bar? Well you have come to the right spot! Welcome to another one of our blog posts this time we will be discussing our new Charcoal Face & Body Bar. We will be addressing the questions of what is Activated Charcoal, where it comes from and why it has a long history of being used in skin care and other applications. Plus breaking down each of the other key components that are contained in our Charcoal Face & Body Bar.

I have had multiple requests over the last couple of years for skin care products, especially those combating acne. Alas it has finally arrived! I have taken the time to put together this soap as the first product in our Skin Care Line. Mind you this soap can be used for an all over body soap not just a face soap. Now let’s take a look as to why this makes a great face and body soap and how it can help combat problem skin.

Activated Charcoal

First, where does it come from? This is a simple question so we are going to address it first!

Activated CharcoalCharcoal is carbon. Activated Charcoal is charcoal that has been treated by oxygen to open up the space between the millions of tiny little carbon atoms.

According to Encyclopedia Britanica: The use of special manufacturing techniques results in highly porous charcoals that have surface areas of 300-2,000 square meters per gram. These so-called active, or activated, charcoals are widely used to adsorb odorous or colored substances from gases or liquids.

Other sources  reveal that over history activated charcoal has been found to draw bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne. Additionally, in powder form is proven to adsorb thousands of times its own mass in harmful substances, which makes it a popular ingredient in facial masks and acne remedies.

Essential Oils For The Skin

Peppermint Leaves

Peppermint Essential Oil is found to it nourish dull skin and is believed to improve the texture of oily or greasy skin. Additionally, it is believed to create a a more even tone to your skin. Not to mention it has a bright and refreshing smell.

Tamanu OilTamanu Oil  is extracted from the seeds of an evergreen tree called Calophyllum inophyllum. Tamanu oil is a remedy long used in Indonesia and the South Pacific and is believed to soothe skin and treat skin conditions such as eczema and acne. This oil is naturally opaque black and lends its color to this rich dark colored soap.

Tea Tree Essential Oil and it’s  healing properties have been known about for thousands of years by the Aboriginal Tribes in Australia where it is indigenous.  Furthermore, it has been widely used and is well known to help with a wide array of skin conditions. In this case we are using it as a topical antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Valentine’s Day Fun

Valentine’s Days Fun

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Normally we don’t either but I have something fun up my sleeve this year! I decided I am treating my boys Zig & Zag to a day of simple, inexpensive Valentine’s Day fun. First off, we are not a family that buys gifts for every little thing or celebrates every nationally listed holiday, but I thought it would be great fun to do something to celebrate Valentine’s Day showing them they are all special to me.

Happy Valentine's Day

Rules of The Day

  1. Wear Red.
  2. Surprise the family with the fun I have planned.
  3. Have a great day!

Prep

With the intention of following my K.I.S.S. rule (Keep It Simple Silly) my prep always comes with a list of what needs to happen to accomplish the goal. Fun in my book shouldn’t have to involve a huge time consuming list of items that have to be done to pull off a good time. Of course this is 100% dependent upon your personality. Personally I love to plan events to the 9’s but will keep it simple this time! (At least by my book 😉 )In this case  my list consists of:

  • Have a Valentine for each person for the morning of.
  • Check to make sure I have all the ingredients for breakfast.
  • Make sugar cookie dough the night before. Here is a great recipe I use that always works out for me plus has a yummy frosting too.

Valentine’s Day

Today is the day! I take and get up a little early today so I can get my loves Valentines place on the table so when they get up and around they find them first thing! I love to watch the excitement in their eyes at something so simple. Next on to breakfast.

Heart Shaped Pancakes are what’s on the menu so let’s get started! Since Valentine’s Day is on a school day this year I picked a simple breakfast that is quick to make and clean up. I also turn on the oven and get the sugar cookie dough out of the fridge so I can get the cookies in the oven and baked before we head out the door for school and work.

Valentine Heart Pancakes

Hence I have a go to pancake recipe that is super simple and all the ingredients can be found most likely in your pantry. The image above is stellar and not mine. You can find the photo and Susan’s great recipe pancake recipe at www.simplehealthykitchen.com for an alternative high protein pancake. In this case Susan used a heart shaped egg/pancake rings which you can find them on Amazon if you want perfectly shaped hearts, I free hand mine, either way I know the family will love them!

Here is my pancake recipe:

SIMPLE PANCAKES  w/ STRAWBERRIES yield 8-10 hearts    Prep: 5 mins     Cook Time: 2-4 mins each

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c. Flour

2 t. Baking Powder

3 t. Sugar

1/2 t. Salt

2 Eggs

1 1/4 c. Milk

3 T. Melted Butter or Vegetable Oil

1 t. Vanilla or Almond Extract

2 c. Strawberries, sliced.

Directions:

Place skillet on stove and turn on to medium heat. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk together. Make a well in the center and add the eggs, milk and butter/oil. Stir together until there are no lumps remaining in the batter. Pour batter into a container with a spout. It is easier to free hand them this way.

Spray skillet, if needed, with cooking spray. Starting with the outer shape of the heart draw it on the skillet. Fill in the center last. You will use about 1/4c – 1/3 c. of the batter. Cook 1-2 minuets or until the center bubbles and/or the edges become dry. Flip and cook another minute or two until golden brown. Repeat with remaining batter.

Plate each plate with 1-3 hearts and sprinkle with strawberries! Serve while warm.

While the family eats I roll out and bake the cookies. I try and make as many different cookie shapes as possible. This way I know they will be nice and cool for decorating later today! I am a huge Wilton fan so I have a great assortment of cookie cutters I have acquired over the years.

Next, I tell the kids to get dressed in red for today and everyone gets ready for the day!

Sugar Cookies

Once home I frost the cookies and get them set out before anyone else arrives home for the day. I love to make them all different but we all know that takes a huge amount of time. So I do a design for each type and realize I was a little over zealous when cutting out so many shapes. I ends up where I take the time to make four special cookies and then just basic ice the rest.

For a special presentation I put each one on a little paper doily that I have written their names on. In they walk and hugs and kisses all around.

Day accomplished!

Hope you have a great day too with doing something simple, inexpensive and fun with your family this year!

Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm

Thieves Defense Balm – Week 2 of 4

It is Cold and Flu season and who likes to get sick?! Definitely not me. Being a Mom I don’t want my family to get it either so I have developed an immunity defense balm. Meet our Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm. This balm is to help guard against all the little nasties floating around, such as viruses and bacteria.

As mentioned above, this is week 2 of 4 in our introduction to our Therapeutic Balms. Since each of our therapeutic balms have so many many wonderful properties to talk about we will be doing a four part series highlighting each one and how it will benefit you and your loved ones. It was either that or you would be reading a very looooooooooooooooooong post. Rather than making it feel like you’re reading a novel we decided to keep it simple. Hence this week we will be discussing our Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm as the second balm in our new line so here we go!

The Legend of Thieves Oil

As legend tells it …

During the the era of the Black Plague that ravaged Europe there were four thieves that would be able to slip into the houses of those dead, dying and infected with bubonic plague and pillage and plunder them of all of their valuables. What was astonishing was they would be able to do so without becoming infected. These thieves created an essential oil blend enabling them to be unharmed. The ingredients of this blend became the code name to each thief to maintain the mystery of their identities.

Before they would go out the thieves would anoint their nasal cavities with essential oils and then apply it to a cloth that they would use to cover their nose and mouth, also to help mask their identities.  In addition they would also apply it to a cloak so they would not touch the victims but would also create a barrier between them.

Upon returning from the night of treachery, they would inhale the steam from boiling water that had been infused with the Thieves Oil to clear out their throats and lungs from any germs they may have come in contact with. Later, after the water cooled, they then would wash their hands and feet with the water.

All things must come to an end

It was rumored that their notoriety became so great the King Charles II laid a trap and captured them. He told them he would show them leniency if they told him how they were able to avoid getting sick and thus procuring the essential oil blend. This too is how the blend got the name of thieves.

The oil blend too has a legend of what was in the “original” blend and it ranges from five to fifteen different herbs and spices. Ingredients common in all of them are Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. Additional ingredients have been Sage, Lemon, and Peppermint but the unique ones have also included Oakmoss and even Veviter.

Our blend is made with Olive Oil, Beeswax, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary therapeutic grade essential oils. You can purchase our Thieves Defense Synergy Blend for diffusing purposes as well.

Let’s Break It Down

Clove Bud Essential Oil

Clove Bud Essential OilClove bud oil is derived from the clove tree, a member of the Myrtaceae family which is and evergreen. This tree is native to Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia. From this evergreen, you can derive three types of clove essential oils: clove bud oil, clove leaf oil, and clove stem oil.

The benefits from clove bud oil can be attributed to its antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties.

Cinnamon Essential Oil

Cinnamon Cassia Essential OilCinnamon is obtained from several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Essential oil can come from both the inner bark and from the leaves. Cinnamon oil does have various applications in aromatherapy; however, it is not as popular as other essential oils such as rosemary essential oil and lavender essential oil.

The health benefits of cinnamon can be attributed to its antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, astringent and has anti-clotting properties. When diffused it will kill airborne virus, bacteria and is known to help with respiratory problems.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus Essential OilEucalyptus essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves evergreen eucalyptus tree. The tree, scientifically classified as Eucalyptus Globulus is also known as fever tree, blue gum tree or stringy bark tree, depending on where it is located in the world. Eucalyptus is native to Australia and has spread in the past few centuries to other parts of the world.

They can be found internationally as well and their true origin is a mystry. The essential oil is obtained from pressing the rind of the lemon extracting this bright yellow oil.

Benefits of lemon oil include, but not limited to, its ability to treat fever, infections, stimulates white blood cells and improves circulation.

Arnica Therapeutic Balm

Therapeutic Balms Are Finally Here!

We are so excited to announce the arrival of our Therapeutic Balms. I have been messing around with these for years and finally a good friend of mine said you really should package these. They are amazing! My response was “That’s a great idea! Let me get them worked into my schedule.” (by the way that was last year or maybe the year before sometime).

Then this last year my Mom had her knee replaced and my sister had to have back surgery due to a bulging disk. Both said wow you really need to be selling that Arnica Balm.  So as a result of them having such great success (or nagging me how every you look at it. LOL)  here I am opening the line up for all to enjoy and benefit from. The line will include our Arnica, Sinus, Sleepytime and Thieves Defense balms.

Furthermore, since each one has soooooo many wonderful properties to talk about we will be doing a four part series highlighting each one and how it will benefit you and your loved ones. It was either that or you would be reading a very looooooooooooooooooong post. Rather than doing that we decided to keep it simple. Hence this week we will be discussing our Arnica Therapeutic Balm as our the first of our new line so here we go!

Let’s Break It Down Shall We

What is Arnica?Arnica Montana

Arnica Montana is a high alpine, perennial flower that is part of the sunflower family and grows at 3000 feet in altitude and higher. The higher in altitude the more aromatic the flowers become. I find it here in the Rocky Mountains where it likes to co-mingle in the sunny spots between the dark timber shadows with Yarrow and Asters. While ours come from a cultivated field it is awesome to see it’s full beauty in the wild. Because it has many benefits for homeopathic healing and is one of the mostly widely used botanical in homeopathic care.

What is it commonly used for?

Arnica is well known for for it’s help with sore muscles, pain, swelling, and bruising.

It is a renowned bruise remedy by sending more white blood cells to the effected area cleaning up the spilled blood where it can be reabsorbed by the body at a faster rate. Reducing the swelling and allow body functions to return to normal.

In addition, it is nature’s anti-inflammatory and helps reduce swelling from minor injuries. Use it right away or as soon as possible after sprains, strains or contusions. (Please note: Do NOT apply Arnica to any open wound or torn skin areas as it can be toxic.) The application of Arnica to the sight will help the body with the pain and swelling and aids in lessening healing time by stimulating the body at the area effected. People whosuffer from arthritis many studies have shown that Arnica has been effective against the pain and stiffness.1 2

Another great benefit of Arnica is the pain relief benefit that doesn’t just mask the pain but goes straight to the source, primarily inflammation, by reducing swelling and driving white blood cells to the injury promoting faster healing especially after trauma. As I mentioned before, both my Mom and my sister had pain on various parts of their bodies. Consequently they both found relief from the joint pain of the knee and pain in her lower back from muscle spasms and swelling from this balm.

What is in our Arnica Therapeutic Balm?

Our Arnica Therapeutic Balm is made with Arnica Extract that we make ourselves form the dried flowers of the botanical Arnica Montana and organic Safflower Oil, plus beeswax. In addition, we use our very own therapeutic grade essential oil blend Tired Muscles to add a wonderful scent and its added beneficial properties. We find it is a must for your first aid and home remedy kits.

Tired Muscle BlendThe Tired Muscles Synergy Blend is comprised of therapeutic grade Eucalyptus, Orange, Rosemary, and Peppermint essential oils. Also, not only does this blend add a wonderful smell to this amazing balm but each one of these essential oils also lend their properties as well. Rosemary is for pain and swelling with it targeting joints. Peppermint is an eviscerate that helps bring oxygenated blood to the area cleaning out the toxins, is also an anti-inflammatory, with a cooling effect. Eucalyptus is antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and a stimulant. Orange is used for it’s antibacterial properties.

Recommend use is a regiment of applying the balm to the effected area and lightly massaging for 30-60 seconds. Use it up to three times for 1-7 days until symptoms subside. If pain, swelling and discomfort continues consult additional medical help.

Contained in our convenient packaging, in a resealable tube…Therapeutic Balmtherefore it makes it perfect to add to all your first aid bags in your car, camper, backpack or your keep in your medicine cabinet at home.

Therapeutic Balms Series Week 2 of 4

I love Bloody Marys so I thought I would include my recipe for you to check out! Click on the link or pop over to our Blog where you can find it always. Do you have your own recipe to share? I am always up to try something new and delicious.

As far as the Polar Bear Swim Day those people are just flat crazy! I can’t imagine actually jumping into freezing cold water by choice. I had to unclog our ditch yesterday that runs in front of our property because it was flooding us out. It was 13 degrees outside and I swear the water was the same temp. NOT FUN! I think I now I must go get my sweater,  I get cold just thinking about it. Brrrrr…… I just had to find out more on this now annual event and found it is a world-wide event. Here is a fun read!

So on that note we again want to wish you a Happy New Year!

‘Til Next Time,

Tracy

Bloody Mary Recipe

Bloody Mary Cocktail Recipe

Bloody Mary

As promised in celebration of the Annual National Bloody Mary Day we decided we needed to share our recipe for all to enjoy so here you are!

Ingredients:

1 Gallon Pitcher

1/2 Gallon Tomato Juice

2 Limes, juiced

1 Lime, Sliced

1-3 Tablespoons Horseradish (Add to taste)

2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

1 Teaspoon Celery Salt

1 Tablespoon Salt

1/2- 1 Tablespoon Black Pepper

1/2 Tablespoon Onion Powder

1 – 2 Teaspoons Crushed Garlic

1-2 Teaspoons of your Favorite Hot Sauce ( Add to taste, I personally like Chlula)

Vodka of choice

Additional Items Needed:

Garnish of choice

Ice

Margarita Salt (optional)

Glasses (Not plastic cups if you want to do a salt rim)

Garnish Ideas:

Fully load your drink or keep it simple either way it is a refreshing addition to brunch, afternoon or evening cocktails. I have had all of these items garnish my Bloody Mary at some point and found them all to be a nice addition. Choose from Celery Sticks, Cocktail Shrimp, Bacon, Large  Stuffed Green Olives, Cocktail Onions, Lemon Slices, Lime Slices, Pepperoncini Peppers, Pickled Asparagus, Hamburger Sliders, Salt Rim or a Spiced Salt Rim Mix (recipe to follow).  Depending upon who is making it it might even be your meal!

If you are throwing a party make up a Bloody Mary Bar for all of your guests where they can pick and choose what goes in their party refreshment. Here is a great blog post on how to do your own Bloody Mary Bar so check it out then call up your friends to try it out!

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together EXCEPT the Vodka and chill at least 1-2 hours so all of deliciousness can combine.
  2. While you wait prep your salt for the rim of your glasses. I find a small flat plate and pour approximately 1/2 c. of Salt or Spiced Salt on to the plate. Yep it’s that simple.
  3. For a Salted Rim you will take a piece of lime and rub it around the rim on the outside and slightly inside to moisten with juice.
  4. Take the glass and dip is straight down into the salt.
  5. Add ice to the top of the glass.
  6. Add 1-2 shots of Vodka (per taste)
  7. Fill remaining with Bloody Mary Mix
  8. Garnish
  9. Enjoy!

And there you have it! There are hundreds, if not, thousands of recipes for this famous cocktail so we hope you like ours.

Cheers!

Tracy

First EVER End Of Year Sales Event

End Of Year Sales Event is here!

Waking up early this morning, I am sooo not a morning person, I met this morning with nervous excitement as I prepared for our first every End Of Year Sales Event! Coffee in hand, I was on Facebook posting the event, sharing it across my groups and running my first ever boosted offer through Facebook.  With in minutes, ok more like 60, I had everything set and *BAM*  the first response and order hits me! Pure ELATION! Now comes the packing and shipping of the order. What could possibly take down my high?!

Facebook Notification

“Due to the text in your Ad you are paying more than you should.” received this from Facebook Ads Manager. Bummer…… Yet I am glad they notified me let’s fix this and keep rolling!

Let’s dive in to the Help Center and get informed. Yes, I paid for a boosted Offer and am seriously wanting the biggest bang for my buck. Every smart business person wants this. Advertising is expensive so it’s a no brainer to immediately drop what you are doing and make the changes necessary. So off I go into Facebook Help Land and see that it should be a simple fix. Yeah! I just need to adjust my image from all text to adding a graphic behind it and making the font 20% or less of the entire image. Ok so here is what I created instead:

End Of Year Sales Event 2016 designed for Facebook.

This is not as informative as I would like it to be but, it’s pretty….. Hoping this resolves the issue as it is now in the review process. Fingers crossed and putting faith in to the Facebook guru’s that is doesn’t make shoppers look past it.

Positive mental attitude is what it’s all about people!

Now back to the shoppers and getting orders out to all who will be capitalizing on this great event. I will be checking my Ad Manager frequently as I watch to analytics of this event progress throughout the week. 🙂 Regardless of what it reports I am huge into positive mental attitude and will take all things with this event as a learning opportunity.

Until next time,

Tracy
