Fall is my favorite time of year!

By admin / 23rd October, 2018 / Featured Products, Getting to know me, Recipes / Off

Fall is my favorite time of year!

Cool crisp nights, warm sunny days colored by the changing of the leaves which are seriously the best reasons you need to visit Colorado during Fall. Yes, you will have the occasional snowstorm that whitens the mountains and the planes but it only sticks to the high mountain peaks in preparation for the Winter season! In addition to the beauty, amazing smells come along with it. Let’s see there are the apples, ginger, pumpkins, ginger, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, ginger (I don’t think I’ve said that one yet) and so much more that warms the inside while you play outside. Oh and then there is ginger! Whew……. I almost forgot that one!

    Smells of the Season

What’s your favorite smell of Fall? I have soooooo many it is hard to choose but I will say that as a whole it is everything spicy. Don’t get me wrong I love the smell of the falling leaves (yes they have a smell!) and the rawness of the bountiful harvest that comes from the garden my husband labors in all summer. Harvest around our property consists of pumpkins, walnuts, zucchini, apples, pears, honey and so much more. Don’t forget the spice when it comes to these amazing foods. They are key to what I, and others, claim to be the best smells of the Fall season. I add in plenty of spice when it comes to mixing it up in my kitchen to my soaprie with flavors of ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, nutmeg, and clove.

    Fall Cooking In My Kitchen

What’s your favorite dish of Fall? Ok, so I don’t think I could actually narrow it down to just one dish so I have linked a couple of my favorite dishes to this part so you can try out one or all! First, let’s go savory with Butternut Squash Soup. Oooooooh yeah, my all-time favorite Fall soup. *slurp* I get hungry just talking about it. It’s rich and creamy and a perfect warm up to that crisp Fall day or on the day snow has been falling, chilling down the these beautiful Rocky Mountains.

Now, how about those sweet and spicy additions to our Fall menu? My husbands’ favorite thing, regardless of the time of year, is Apple Pie. Mine? Soft and delectable Ginger Spice cookies. My boys? Pumpkin Bread. As you can see the debate is a good one in our house when it comes times to make that Fall dessert! We usually end up drawing from a hat the first time around. Next is Rock/Paper/Scissors decides the second (with a vote for Apple Pie always) and the third just has to suck it up until the time comes around once again to bake that next scrumptious, spicy Fall yummy. Even though there is fierce competition for their choice of what to make, there isn’t any complaint when any are made that’s for sure!

    Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm

By admin / 13th January, 2017 / Featured Products, Informational Posts / Off

Thieves Defense Balm – Week 2 of 4

It is Cold and Flu season and who likes to get sick?! Definitely not me. Being a Mom I don’t want my family to get it either so I have developed an immunity defense balm. Meet our Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm. This balm is to help guard against all the little nasties floating around, such as viruses and bacteria.

As mentioned above, this is week 2 of 4 in our introduction to our Therapeutic Balms. Since each of our therapeutic balms have so many many wonderful properties to talk about we will be doing a four part series highlighting each one and how it will benefit you and your loved ones. It was either that or you would be reading a very looooooooooooooooooong post. Rather than making it feel like you’re reading a novel we decided to keep it simple. Hence this week we will be discussing our Thieves Defense Therapeutic Balm as the second balm in our new line so here we go!

    The Legend of Thieves Oil

    As legend tells it …

During the the era of the Black Plague that ravaged Europe there were four thieves that would be able to slip into the houses of those dead, dying and infected with bubonic plague and pillage and plunder them of all of their valuables. What was astonishing was they would be able to do so without becoming infected. These thieves created an essential oil blend enabling them to be unharmed. The ingredients of this blend became the code name to each thief to maintain the mystery of their identities.

Before they would go out the thieves would anoint their nasal cavities with essential oils and then apply it to a cloth that they would use to cover their nose and mouth, also to help mask their identities.  In addition they would also apply it to a cloak so they would not touch the victims but would also create a barrier between them.

Upon returning from the night of treachery, they would inhale the steam from boiling water that had been infused with the Thieves Oil to clear out their throats and lungs from any germs they may have come in contact with. Later, after the water cooled, they then would wash their hands and feet with the water.

All things must come to an end

It was rumored that their notoriety became so great the King Charles II laid a trap and captured them. He told them he would show them leniency if they told him how they were able to avoid getting sick and thus procuring the essential oil blend. This too is how the blend got the name of thieves.

The oil blend too has a legend of what was in the “original” blend and it ranges from five to fifteen different herbs and spices. Ingredients common in all of them are Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. Additional ingredients have been Sage, Lemon, and Peppermint but the unique ones have also included Oakmoss and even Veviter.

Our blend is made with Olive Oil, Beeswax, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary therapeutic grade essential oils. You can purchase our Thieves Defense Synergy Blend for diffusing purposes as well.

    Let’s Break It Down

    Clove Bud Essential Oil

Clove Bud Essential OilClove bud oil is derived from the clove tree, a member of the Myrtaceae family which is and evergreen. This tree is native to Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia. From this evergreen, you can derive three types of clove essential oils: clove bud oil, clove leaf oil, and clove stem oil.

The benefits from clove bud oil can be attributed to its antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties.

    Cinnamon Essential Oil

Cinnamon Cassia Essential OilCinnamon is obtained from several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Essential oil can come from both the inner bark and from the leaves. Cinnamon oil does have various applications in aromatherapy; however, it is not as popular as other essential oils such as rosemary essential oil and lavender essential oil.

The health benefits of cinnamon can be attributed to its antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, astringent and has anti-clotting properties. When diffused it will kill airborne virus, bacteria and is known to help with respiratory problems.

    Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus Essential OilEucalyptus essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves evergreen eucalyptus tree. The tree, scientifically classified as Eucalyptus Globulus is also known as fever tree, blue gum tree or stringy bark tree, depending on where it is located in the world. Eucalyptus is native to Australia and has spread in the past few centuries to other parts of the world.

Benefits of eucalyptus oil are well-known and wide ranging. Its properties include anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, antiseptic, antibacterial and more. It is effective for treating a number of respiratory problems including cold, nasal congestion, cough, and sore throat just to name a few.

    Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon Essential OilLemons; a.k.a. Citrus Medica Limonum, are found in the hot and humid areas. Here in the United States popular groves can be found in Arizona, California and Florida. They can be found internationally as well and their true origin is a mystry. The essential oil is obtained from pressing the rind of the lemon extracting this bright yellow oil.

Benefits of lemon oil include, but not limited to, its ability to treat fever, infections, stimulates white blood cells and improves circulation.

    Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary Essential OilRosemary, also known as Rosmarinus Officinalis, is very popular not only because of it’s wide array of health benefits but also in the culinary world as well. It has also been know to frequent religious ceremonies and was a popular incense in ancient times. The essential oil of Rosemary is primarily extracted from the leaves but can come from the stems as well.

It has the ability to stimulate hair growth, boost mental activity, relieve respiratory problems and reduce pain. When inhaled through diffusion it is a known immunity booster combating all the free radicals in the body.

As you can see all of the amazing essential oils combined make one heck of a kick butt blend that will boost your immune system. No one like to get sick, be sick or have to care for little ones who are sick.
